My cat rolls over
revealing her tortoiseshell tummy of fur.
revealing her tortoiseshell tummy of fur.
What’s it like for her, always at home?
I’ve seen her venture outside,
sit on the swings
leap over high fences.
No boundary too high for her,
No boundary too high for her,
how can I enjoy myself when I must stay at home like her?
Her eyes dance from birds
to clouds of white
to the piercing blue sky.
to clouds of white
to the piercing blue sky.
Everywhere full of adventurous possibilities
I decide to follow her out, in need of a break.
The sun brushes its tender warmth over me.
Inhaling the smell of freshly cut grass,
My sense of confinement flies away.
With the birds tweeting merrily,
Who could not be joyful this day?
Later, I turn pages of unread books,
skim through mountains of my imagination and
skim through mountains of my imagination and
absorb knowledge intermingled
with my friend’s wit.
Time flies by with enjoyment,
with my friend’s wit.
Time flies by with enjoyment,
Friendship, laughter,
not boredom.
Boredom wasn’t invited into our house,
The first,
Nor the second week at home.
not boredom.
Boredom wasn’t invited into our house,
The first,
Nor the second week at home.
When my cat dreams
she can be wherever she wants to be:
she can be wherever she wants to be:
Chasing mice across our garden
Purring softly in front of a fireplace
Exploring the wilderness of our world
But right now,
in this moment,
Purring next to me,
She’s completely content.
in this moment,
Purring next to me,
She’s completely content.
