As most people know, finding a good beautician is not the easiest of tasks. One of the most difficult things is that there are so many beauty salons now, how do you narrow down the right one for you? Everyone’s opinions are different but I’m going to share with you my experience of Blackthorn Beauty and the reasons why I won’t go anywhere else.
Blackthorn Beauty is a new salon that has opened above Freedom Tattoos in Ipswich; it is run by Saskia Brett. I moved to Ipswich a few years ago and was yet to find a beauty salon to suit me. After trying a few other shops previously, I decided to give Blackthorn Beauty a go.
I needed to get my eyebrows waxed for a work function. If anyone has ever met me, they’ll know I’m very particular about my eyebrows. I booked in with Saskia and when I arrived at the shop, I was met with friendliness and professionalism. Her beauty room had a warm and welcoming feel and was spotlessly clean. My first impressions were off to a good start.
Saskia took the time to learn how I liked my eyebrows shaped and what I was expecting from the treatment. After fully grasping what I wanted, she got to work on rescuing what would have quickly become a caterpillar if I had left it a few more days.
The wax was melted at the right temperature for my skin and we had easy conversations whilst she worked, taking my mind off any painful hairs that needed to be removed. She waxed most of the hairs and then explained that she preferred to tweezer the remaining as it was easier to get as close as possible and define the shape. I’m a little bit of a wuss when it comes to tweezering my eyebrows because my eyes water and then I start rubbing my eyes and quite quickly, I become any beautician’s nightmare client. However, Saskia was patient with me and worked quickly so that the pain from the tweezering was minimal. As a bonus, my eyes only watered twice too.
In no time at all, my eyebrows were complete and I looked in the mirror. I was so pleased with the results; they were shaped exactly how I described. Usually when I go to a salon, I still find stray hairs after the treatment that haven’t been removed but they were done so perfectly and to such a high-end standard that I couldn’t find any faults. I was most surprised because of how quickly she had worked and the result was as if she had spent hours working on them. I have now found my regular beauty salon in Ipswich and I won’t let anyone else touch my eyebrows now.
A few months later, I was having some pains with my shoulders and booked in with Saskia to have a neck and shoulder massage. I’ve had quite a few massages before, including a very interesting and incredibly awkward sports massage in Bulgaria but that is a story for another day.
Blackthorn Beauty had soothing sounds playing which instantly relaxed me. Saskia ensured that I felt comfortable because let’s face it, massages can be awkward. I laid down and let myself melt into the massage bed as she used lavender oil to help soothe and remove any tension in my shoulders.
I had quite a few knots in my shoulders and whilst they were painful, Saskia removed them effortlessly. If I needed to ask for the pressure to be increased or decreased then I was at ease enough to say so.
After the massage, I was left feeling fully relaxed, calm and positive. My neck and shoulders were feeling lighter than they have been in years. This is a treatment that I would definitely recommend as it has done absolute wonders for me and I no longer feel like I’m carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.
I am so glad that I have found Blackthorn Beauty because it has now become my go to place for everything. As Saskia is also qualified to do piercings, I have also had my tragus pierced there. The salon is always immaculate and hygienic and I’m welcomed with a friendly atmosphere every time I walk through the door.
Everyone’s opinion on a perfect beauty salon can differ but I know that I have certainly found mine.
