When my mental health is not going so well, I find that self-care is really beneficial in helping me reset my mind. I thought I would share some of my self-care tips with you as I think sharing our experiences with mental health and how we find ways of helping ourselves can be so beneficial and it may help others to open up with their mental health.

So, these are some of my self-care tips and tricks:

Reading: If I need to escape the real world for a little while, I go and read a book. There was a time where I didn’t read at all because I had lost all interest in it. Thankfully, that’s all changed now, and I can turn to a book again when it all gets too much.

Tidying: I find when I’m in the dark place mentally my bedroom becomes a bit of a mess because I just don’t have the energy to put everything away. When I do finally tidy my room and everything has been put away, I feel so much better, as my bedroom is my safe place, and when it is messy, it stresses me out which makes my mental health worse.

YouTube: Now this may seem like an unusual one but for me, watching my favourite YouTubers always helps. I find that watching really helps me forget what is going on in my mind as I become so engrossed in what I am watching. My favourite YouTubers are always able to make me laugh and feel better even if I was crying like minutes before I started watching them.

Sleep: Now this can be a hard one for those who struggle with sleep due to their mental health, me being one of them, but when I can I tend to sleep for as long as I need. Trying to battle your mental health can be so exhausting and feel like you’re putting all your energy into just getting through the day. There are times where I need to have a nap or go to bed early because the day has taken it out of me. I always feel better whenever I’ve had a nap or have slept for a period time; it gives me a newfound strength to look after my body and my mind.

These are my tips and tricks when it comes to my self-care when my mental health is suffering. I hope these ideas help you find your own ways to help take care of yourself during a difficult time.
