BMC Cakery or ‘Bake My Cheat’ as it’s formally known, has been around for about 2 years now. The popular café come shop, used to be situated in DW Gym before rebranding and moving to new premises on Woodbridge Road. From here, BMC Cakery has expanded rapidly not only in offering but also in size as it recently opened a second premises on Clapgate Lane.
The first time I ordered from BMC Cakery was last July. I ordered a beautiful pink drip cake for my mum’s birthday which was adorned with flowers and macaroons. Rachel Halls, who is the owner and baker did an incredible job. It’s so evident how hard Rachel and her team work and I’m so happy to see months of hard work and determination pay off.
BMC Cakery is definitely worth a visit, not only for all the amazing fresh baked goods and savoury treats but for the vast range of American imported food and drink. You can also purchase cake supplies.
I decided to take a trip to the most recent shop on Clapgate Lane as I haven’t been since it opened in November. The exterior is a gorgeous blush pink and stands out from other shop fronts along the parade. I’ve visited twice recently and both times the shop had a handful of people inside.
You can find cookies, cookie sandwiches, brownies, blondies, big slices of cake, rocky road, muffins and there’s usually vegan and gluten-free options. However, it’s the flavours and ingredient combinations that really stand out. I ordered a ‘milky bar rocky road’ and a ‘kit kat blondie’. The portion sizes are generous and these are priced around £2.25-£2.50 each. The photos don’t quite do them justice but they were so yummy and quite filling too. The counter at both shops vary day to day but I guarantee you’ll find something that looks delicious!
I also follow BMC Cakery on Facebook and they give daily updates which include photos of their counter that day, so that you can get an idea of what’s available.
If you’re able to get to one of the shops, I’d highly recommend it!
