Writing is so much fun, but it can be really difficult. There are lots of issues that can occur ranging from writing blocks to lack of motivation, which can be so frustrating, so here are my top tips!
1. PLAN BEFORE WRITING
It’s a good idea to plan how you’ll start: the plot, key events, the ending and your characters; this prevents writer’s block and will help you know how to continue writing. If it’s a long story, plan your characters in depth, which includes their personalities, reactions to things and how they act. This is so your character seems real and makes it easier when writing actions and dialogue for your character.
2. DON’T. STOP. WRITING.
Now you may be really confused by this, but this is for when you get struck by a writer’s block. If you find yourself not knowing what to write: just carry on writing, even if you know it’s absolute nonsense. No matter if you misspell something or start writing off task, keep writing because you can always edit it later. This helps ideas to flow and your imagination spark.
3. SET YOURSELF A TARGET OF WHEN TO FINISH
This won’t work for everyone but if it is your sort of thing, this may be something useful for you. When setting a time of when to finish, instead of viewing it as a deadline, see it as more of a target to prevent it causing stress. This will help you not to procrastinate as much and not forget about it.
4. ENJOY IT AND HAVE FUN
This is very cheesy but believe me, writing a story you don’t like and don’t want to do is horrible and makes it a chore. Enjoying it is really important because you can see it in the writing, and it makes the story so much better to read as well!
