DOES IT IRRITATE YOU WHEN PEOPLE USE CERTAIN TERMS INCORRECTLY?
This is a question that can’t be answered with a simple yes or no. I think in terms of using terms incorrectly, it depends on the intention behind it. If someone is not educated or simply ignorant to the terms, then instead of being angered we as a community should help them learn to not make the same mistakes. However, those knowingly using certain terms incorrectly, I have no time for. It’s easy to allow these people to gaslight you, it’s understandable that you don’t want to be mislabelled and having your identity invalidated is disgusting. In times like these, it’s best to fall back on your community, whoever that includes. Take a breath and ask yourself: Will I achieve anything by replying to these people with anger?
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT T.E.R.F’S?
For those who don’t know, TERF stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. Otherwise known as transphobes. How do I feel about them? I feel saddened as ‘biological’ women have faced a lot of oppression themselves and for them to become the oppressors is appalling. How can you say you are a feminist when you exclude a demographic that doesn’t suit your ‘ideals’? For any TERF’S that are reading this, put yourself in the shoes of those that you oppress… in fact look around at your own demographic and see how women are still being oppressed. Have compassion, try to be understanding.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT FORCED DIVERSITY?
Forced diversity is something that is extremely prominent in media and fiction. With the civil rights movement pushing forward, industries will try and profit from minority groups. For example, Pride and brands that use the LGBTQ+ to sell their items and make a profit. Yes, businesses need marketing and to make profits but, it’s disgusting that they profit from minorities without actually advocating for the cause. We need proper diversity in media and advertisement, in life we are diverse therefore it should be reflected in media representation.
