In our current era of technology, with so many new updates to old systems, it’s easy to miss the ones you don’t necessarily interact with every day. This month, Ashley from Hughes Electrical spoke to us about the newest development of the television behemoth Sky, so take the comfiest seat in the house, sit back, relax and learn about the new way to watch TV: introducing Sky Q.

If you’re familiar with Sky’s TV service, then it’s important to note that not much has really changed. Sure, the Sky Q box itself is smaller, sleeker and faster but fundamentally, the vast range of channels you know and love (and packages to expand that further) are the same. The revolutions come in the increase of storage for recordings, the addition of on-demand services and most of all, the ability to connect every TV in your house together. For the first time, you can watch the same recording on any TV, in any room – and all under one subscription!

Dubbed “Fluid Viewing”, with Sky Q you are able to stop a programme and continue watching it exactly where you left off on any other Sky Q box. And it doesn’t stop at TVs, with “Sky Go”, you can further connect your Sky account to a tablet, laptop or even smartphone to stream your programmes wherever you are and at no additional cost!

With the increase in options available, Sky have developed their remote control to ensure navigation is easier than ever. Boasting both touch-pad and voice control functionalities, a simple swipe or “take me to my recordings”, will get you to where you want to go.

Sky Q boxes come in two sizes: 1TB and 2TB. The 1TB Sky Q box will store up to 500 hours of recordings and enables you to record 3 programmes while watching another – these start at £22-a-month. While slightly more expensive, the 2TB option allows up to 1000 hours of recorded programmes, 6 simultaneous recordings with another one being watched and, with the additional “Sky Q Experience”, access to 4K Ultra HD programmes/recordings.

Now you can see, the sky really is not the limit!

HUGHES VIEW

SKY Q is a real step up for SKY. They have always had a really easy to use, clever system, but with the developments of SKY Q, they have pushed the barriers even further. Multiple options on recording, seamless viewing on multiple devices, wireless additional boxes, a clever new smart remote, and 4K TV just add so much extra wow, to an incredible channel line up.

Whilst the package options can appear huge, SKY have simply defined the channel types, to ensure you have less opportunity to pay for channels you don’t actually want. And with our own unique special deals that we have at Hughes, you can always be sure of the best sky deals around at one of our stores. For more info, just give us a call.
