Marnie is 16 years old and decided to get involved with Student Life because she wanted to be a part of a community of students sharing their ideas and opinions.

I know that right now you’re completely overwhelmed by so much stress and pressure due to GCSEs. You’re burning yourself out in the hopes of finding what you have been looking for – I’ve been there before!  And I know now that you can’t find it because you’re searching for the wrong things – good GCSE grades will not give you instant happiness!

Instead, what you need to find, and what I now have is perspective and acceptance. GCSEs are not the be-all and end-all; in fact, they don’t even cross my mind at all. I’m studying a-levels knowing that they are just a period of my life that will not decide everything I will do for the rest of my life. Although I’m proud of the grades I got, I’m much happier now that I’m prioritising my mental health – like you should too.

Still, while I’m here, I want to do my best and enjoy it. Except I accept that my best is all I can do – if you do just that, you will be proud of yourself whatever you achieve. There is nothing more you can do!
