So here we are at the end of another year. For me, 2019 has probably been the most challenging year of my life.
I’ve had highs and lows but sadly way more lows. However, it’s easy to fall into the trap of self-pity, the ‘why me?’ and the negative view on the hand I’ve been dealt. Instead, I’m challenging myself right now to shift my perspective and focus on the blessings, the opportunities that have presented and the positives that have come from my darkest moments- and trust me, if you look deep enough, there will be positives. While it sounds cliché as we are about to enter a new year, it just so happened to fall like that for me. The new year couldn’t have come at a better time and I’m getting in the mindset of a fresh start, a chance to breathe in the new year and the opportunity to leave any negativity in 2019. Obviously, all easier said then done, but we know that change starts from within and we also know that our mindset is a hugely powerful tool.
Therefore, I challenge you. While I don’t know each and every one of your stories, I know that you have the power to take back control of your life; your thoughts, feelings and emotions. For some of you, you’ll be entering the new year feeling great; feeling like 2019 has been incredible and really looking forward to what 2020 has in store. On the contrary, there will be many of you dreading a new year. Dreading the thought of life carrying on as it has. To you, I say, if you need some guidance, support or advice and you don’t know where to turn, please consider contacting us here at Student Life. We can help you, collaborate with you and signpost you. Even if you want to get involved in our publication, writing or photography, we would welcome your involvement!
Whatever you do to see in the new year, I hope you have a good time and keep safe. See you in 2020!
