Over the summer I was given the opportunity to work behind the scenes of the Suffolk Fashion Show alongside a great team of people including Pam Davis, owner of Fashion Candy Style. I was so grateful for this opportunity and it’s taught me a lot about what goes on behind the scenes. I study Fashion Communication and Promotion at University of Suffolk, so helping at the show would also help me and my work.
I attended the Fashion Candy Style Model Bank Casting at the start of summer to meet the models who would be working at the Show. I helped greet the models as they came in and got them ready to go through to see Pam and the team. It was such a friendly atmosphere and this got me excited to help out more.
During September we had rehearsals every Sunday in the run up to the show. The rehearsals were so important, especially when it came to sorting routines and the order of which people walked onto the stage. We also had to make sure we knew how long to play each song and whether it needed to be looped.
The show came around so quickly. I got to the venue early and helped the team get everything ready. Pam even had some Fashion Candy Style t-shirts printed with our names on the back to wear during the show. While the show was taking place, I was in the girls’ backstage room helping them get ready for each routine, directing them to what outfits needed to be worn and I had to tell them how long they had until they had to get back to the catwalk. It was very busy but I was so filled with adrenaline it helped me to rush around!
I learnt so much about putting together a fashion show and all the hard work that goes behind it. It has also helped me at university as I can apply my knowledge of fashion shows to my work. I want to say a massive thank you to Pam and the team for this fantastic opportunity to help out. Bring on Suffolk Fashion Show 2020!
