Coming from a country where my aunt used to cook a lot, where I basically never had to go out to eat as her food was always better, I now find myself in a totally different stage. I like to try a new cuisine, new places that just open and I am more careful with what I eat. I enjoy cooking but always going to different small restaurants to try what they have and compare restaurants.
From pasta and pizza to Chinese and Japanese I learned so many cuisines and some of their traditions as well. Since I moved to UK, I started having a lot of Asian food and working in a Japanese restaurant only increases my joy and appetite for this cuisine. Rice is the base in every meal and what I like most is bibimbap and teriyaki dishes. Beef, chicken or tofu they all go nicely with both of them, as these 2 dishes even if they are from different cultures, Bibimbap being Korean and teriyaki Japanese they are enjoyable through their taste and texture.
Being a university student most of the time cooking is a good choice, it saves money and time which is important, however, treating yourself with nice meals from time to time is very good for motivation and morale. Asian food is special, every time that I try a new dish I feel like I’m in a different country and for me, that feeling is amazing.
Another type of cuisine that I’ve recently tried, as a recommendation from a friend, was Indian. It was a bit different to what I’m used to, but I gave it a try and it didn’t disappoint. To be honest, things were a bit messier, food was spicier and more intense in taste but it was a good experience.
Discovering new dishes is always good and gives me a good feeling, of course every time I go home I prefer my aunt’s cooking, but until I will be able to cook better I would prefer from time to time to have a meal out where I can live the experience and enjoy the food in proper way. Therefore, I don’t have a favourite one yet, I am still discovering new ones.
