Tilly is 17 years old and is currently studying A-Levels in French, English Literature and History. Tilly decided to get involved with Student Life after having received a presentation about the magazine at her school.
Being an A-Level student has definitely brought with it some stresses, hence my decision to write about entertainment, a topic that allows you to remove yourself from the intensity of school work and finally relax. Obviously, much like any teenager of my age, I enjoy socialising and going out with friends, but as it turns colder and we approach Christmas I decided that it would be interesting to discuss the wintery activities that are available for you to enjoy whilst taking time away from study.
I feel like the most common answer for a wintery day out is a trip to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. The idea may seem dauntingly expensive, but actually booking a train to London in a group significantly reduces the price. Admissions to the site are free. There is a cost to book on to specific activities, but a student discount is offered and you may just want to wander around, get some food and look at the festive stalls. Overall, the event may be slightly pricier than some others but definitely one of the most Christmassy.
Garden centres are also a must around Christmas time – they are filled with decorations, lights and all things Christmas! I love to look round, even if I don’t purchase anything, and obviously they are free to enter! Notcutts is a popular one in the area, and they’ve also got a festive menu if you’re feeling peckish!
If you’re anything like me, you love food. Personally, I just enjoy getting LOADS of food, putting on some Christmas lights and drinking a hot chocolate while watching a Christmas film. It seems to be something I’m doing a little too often recently… On a student budget this is probably the easiest way to entertain yourself. Raid the fridge or pop to the shop and buy some food (usually what is on offer) and try to find a film by any other means that you can – please note, this may involve ‘borrowing a friend’s Netflix password…)
As you are now probably aware I am a huge fan of Christmas, and whether you go out or stay in, there are lots of ways to enjoy yourself on a restrictive budget while still being overly festive!
